Crowder College theatre department is going to host a virtual reading of “A Christmas Carol.” Due to COVID-19, Crowder is playing it safe by not having a play in the winter but the theatre department still wants to do something for the community. Students, faculty, and community members will be doing a dramatic reading of this Christmas classic.
“There are nine cast members, many of those or multi-casted, our stage director, piano player, and me as the director,” says the theatre director Natasha O’Brien Davies. “Why we chose A Christmas Carol is because there are many adaptations of this piece. For over 150 years the tale sustains itself through a message of hope and the idea that it’s never too late for kindness to prevail. During this time of uncertainty, we should cling to the promise of goodness within our fellow man. Scrooge’s journey urges us to be mindful of how we use the precious gift of life.”
The days that it will be watchable is Dec. 14- Dec. 26. The theatre department is providing it free, but donations will be accepted and sent straight to the theatre department itself. The funds will be used to support student activities, future productions, and more. To make a virtual reservation, call 417-455-5458 or email NaTashaObrienDavies@Crowder.edu.
