Problem:
I’m a freshman here at Crowder and there’s no denying that I’m definitely as broke as a joke. I was wondering if you knew of any make-up from cheaper retail stores that’s as good as higher quality brands. As much as I love Sephora and Ulta, my bank account doesn’t. Help! –Freshman Fashionista
Fashionista, welcome to the struggle of having no money while at college and trying to look fierce. It sucks, doesn’t it? Most college girls have transitioned out of their top of the line make-up to their, well, not so high end. However, even though Wal-Mart and Walgreens aren’t known for their make-up, they still have some hidden treasures within those shelves, and at a good price too!
You can basically find all of your necessities at either of these places; what’s even better is even though it’s a low price (thank the heavens), it’s still pretty high quality and gets the job done. After all, all makeup has to go through the same testing, so the standard are the same for both sides of the money spectrum. Trust me, I wouldn’t steer you wrong.
Concealer and Powder
So, if you’re looking for a concealer that covers up those unexpected break outs, you need to hit up Hard Candy’s Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer; it’s only $6 and trust me, it works wonders.
Now, if you’re in need of some powder with more of a matte look, make sure to grab some of Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Press Powder; this is only $3.97, so you don’t need to worry about breaking your bank on this one, and you can still look awesome.
e.l.f.
One of my personal favorite brands from Wal-Mart is e.l.f., which I just recently found out means, “Eyes. Lips. Face.” Mind blown, I know. This brand is super cheap but super good. If you’re looking to tame those brows, I’d recommend their Cosmetic Eye Brow kit; it’s only $3. I also highly suggest their Cosmetics Under Eye Concealer and Highlighter, which is also $3. I have this in my purse at all times because it’s always my go-to for when I have bags under my eyes from watching too much Netflix from the night before (no shame). E.l.f also has this really cool Lip Exfoliator that does wonders, and it is in a normal lipstick container, so you can put it with the rest of your make up. I was a bit hesitant to try it at first, but for only $3, I couldn’t really say no. It could also have to do with my lack of self-control in the make-up aisle, but that’s beside the point.
Mascara
Lastly, one of the most important necessities when doing make-up is mascara. I’m not ashamed to admit that I am a total mascara snob. I have tried almost every mascara at Ulta and Sephora, but every time I find myself using my mascara from Wal-Mart, which I have been using since I was a sophomore in high school. So, if you’re ever in need of some great mascara, I highly recommend New York Color Big Bold Mascara, Extreme Black. For only $4.47, this mascara gets the job done. Even after all my other name brand mascaras, I still choose it. Talk about #truelove.
Anyway, I really hope this helped you out, Fashionista! Believe me, we all know the #struggle so it’s important to help a sister out because in the wise words of High School Musical, “we’re all in this together
