It’s not an uncommon thing to have problems or get annoyed with your roommate. In fact, more than 75% of college students have or have had an issue with a roommate. Some of the most common issues are: a messy roommate, a roommate that doesn’t understand personal space or not asking permission to use other’s personal belongings, or always having strangers over.
Most of the time we don’t start experiencing trouble with roommates until about the second or third semester of college. At first, many experience what people call “The Honeymoon Phase.” It’s where you all get along so well and you’re extra careful around each other. Sometimes you may act like a completely different person, like being organized or being extra sweet.
But once you guys get comfortable with each other, your true colors start to show. What might you do if you start experiencing problems with your roommate? “You could either sit down and have a serious talk with them about how you feel about certain situations, or you could request a new roommate,” said Lori Kelley, Crowder College dorm administrative.
