Today’s topic is taking initiative, and our first quote comes from William Jennings Bryan, an American politician who served from the 1890’s until his death in 1926.
“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”
Many times we let opportunities pass us by because we are waiting on fate. We’ve heard the old adage “Good things come to those who wait,” and we choose to believe it – we choose to wait, hoping fate will drop good things in our lap without us having to take initiative. Truth is, very little comes to us without putting in some sort of effort.
Francis Bacon, a Renaissance philosopher and essayist, put it best with his quote, “A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds.”
Every day is a new beginning, every day is new chance to take initiative and create the destiny of our choosing. The best things in life are worth working for, so find those opportunities, take those chances and make it happen. Nothing comes for free.
