Despite its small size and relatively small staff, Mojo Burger Co is definitely a top-notch location in terms of taste and experience. For less than most diner-style burger joints, Mojo offers a quality burger with loads of fries. The burger comes with single, double, or triple patties, and offers nearly 20 toppings, ranging from ketchup to jalapenos.
A quick glance at the intersection of 7th and Maiden in Joplin greets wandering eyes with a mustache logo and quaint building. Inside, the vision of owner Eric Gilbert is quickly evident – burgers, fries and a distinct cultural experience. Mojo Burger Co. specializes in their burgers and fries, but the atmosphere gives a little dive into the past.
If a burger won’t do, Mojo has other options, including hotdogs, spaghetti red, and Frito pie. Thanks to the cozy environment and attentive service, Mojo makes customers feel right at home, and the mustache logo gives it a unique twist that accurately suggests its retro atmosphere.
Mojo was founded by owner Eric Gilbert, son of the former owner of longtime Joplin classic, Babe’s. The culture at Mojo is a little different, though, deviating from the traditional old-style diner to a picturesque rock-themed restaurant. On the walls hang posters featuring bands like the Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Kings of Leon.
To review this restaurant, I checked a couple of things: service, freshness and quality of food. The service was attentive, respectful and quick, and the food came out piping hot and fresh, always a good sign. Not only was the food high quality, it didn’t break the bank – it’s as affordable as most small, diner-style eateries. As far as quality is concerned, it’s some of the best Joplin has to offer.
Since opening in 2013, the restaurant has seen a lot of success, and efforts to expand have been tested, but nothing is concrete at this point. If you’re looking for a place to relax for a casual, quick dinner, look no farther than 7th and Maiden Lane in Joplin – you won’t be disappointed.
