It can be difficult for students to find a balance in life during their college career. Physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health are all things students must juggle while getting their education.
“Assess your life as it is now. Make a personal commitment (decision) to actively work toward correcting any part(s) of your life that are found to be out of balance,” said Professor Larry Beckett, a practicing psychologist and psychology instructor at Crowder.
He considers this to be one of the best ways for college students to balance overall health. Taking the time to evaluate each aspect of life might be helpful for students to realize the areas they need to put the most effort or time into. Dr. Beckett suggests that students stay on top of responsibilities and their resources, in an effort to simplify their lives. Staying in control of one’s money
“I suggest students always evaluate how realistic their individual goals are,” Beckett said.
Setting reasonable and attainable goals can help students in their attempt to balance an overall healthy lifestyle. Setting a specific time to study each day, buying more fruits and veggies as opposed to fast food items, and getting some time to relax each day could be achievable goals for students.
The key to physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health is to find the best way to devote needed time to each individual aspect of health. “[It can be] incredibly difficult to balance it all. Planning things out is the most important,” says Brianna Cawyer, a student at both Crowder and Missouri Southern State University.
