Kristin Hoover, journalism and public relations major, talks about her work and life.

What do you do at Crowder?

I am a secretary for Project Now.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Getting to know the students. And we have a unicorn.

What’s the story behind the unicorn?

This year’s theme for Project Now is “We Believe”, so we decided we needed a 6-foot-tall unicorn. We also have an 8-foot-tall Sasquatch. We have a 6-foot-tall alien, too. We are the weirdest people on campus. You can quote me on that.

Why did you come to Crowder?

I wasn’t happy at my previous job, so I decided to just apply and see what happened. I never dreamed they’d hire me, honestly.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

I drove in a demolition derby. My car was purple, and my sister painted a garden gnome on the hood.

What’s it like being a home-school mom?

Homeschooling my kids was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m glad we did it, but I’m also glad it’s over.

Why did you choose journalism & public relations?

I started this degree path at NEO (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College) in 2007, and had so many credits, I didn’t want to quit.

What’s been the hardest thing about working to earn this major?

Balancing life and school. And I’m old.

What’s your favorite food?

Bacon. Always bacon.

If you could fill a swimming pool with anything, what would you choose?

That’s really weird – maybe bacon, I don’t know. No, I think salt water, because those float tanks intrigue me.
