The video game publisher Electronic Arts (E.A.) released their response to the Fortnite craze this February with Apex Legends. A free to play battle royale first-person shooter that aims to kill Fornite’s hold on the video gaming community.

A spin-off of another hugely popular E.A. game, Titanfall, players can fully customize eight different characters to build a full three-person squad with the hopes of being the last squad standing at the end of each match.

Each character has different tactical uses from acting as the squad’s medic to teleportation in battle. Depending on each teammate’s playstyle, different combinations of characters can be utilized.

The game is free to play, but features in-game microtransactions that can be made to fully customize a character’s outfit, weapon skins and even the quips the character makes in game while slaying opponents. If the player doesn’t want to worry about customization, they won’t suffer during actual gameplay, which is a plus.

Great graphics, free moving and tactically based, the game is appealing to those looking to experience a more serious battle royale mode with friends. E.A. announced a week after release that there were already 25 million downloads of the title as more and more players look for a change in pace after 2018 was dominated by Fortnite.

There’s a slight learning curve as the game offers little explanation in pairing the characters abilities, but a few games in and that can be overcome. Once a player learns which character to utilize the general havoc of a firefight on top of a supply ship becomes a rush of adrenaline. Anyone looking to demoralize opponents with tactical assaults and stealth would love the experience and should look into downloading the game.
