Due to the coronavirus, Crowder College was forced to find an alternative option for its upcoming graduates. On April 29th, Crowder College announced its official decision involving the May 2020 graduation.
“Crowder has a plan so we can celebrate with our graduates now and celebrate in December,” states Dr. Glenn Coltharp, President of Crowder College. “Our May graduates can get a diploma cover, tassel, graduation program or they can choose to participate in a December ceremony.”
Crowder has arranged for all exit exams to be waived. In addition, they are printing a commencement program to increase recognition for the graduates. The program, along with any cords, stoles, or tassels students may need access too, will be available for pick-up or purchase at the Crowder Bookstore.
Diplomas will be sent through the mail and are expected to be received by graduates 4-6 weeks following the completion of your degree. Graduates are furthermore invited to participate in the December 2020 ceremony.
Laura Gammons, general studies major and May graduate of Crowder College, gives her opinion on the subject. “Although I’m still graduating, my plans to celebrate with all my family had to change.”
The decision of canceling the May ceremony is in compliance with the CDC restriction of no mass gatherings of more than 10 people. The decision was made by Crowder officials to preserve the health of their students and the general public.
“Either way, we want to help our graduates celebrate their accomplishment,” stated Coltharp.
