In today’s society, candy bars almost seem a way of life; a quick pick-me-up when our blood sugar is low or an anti-depressant when we have just gone through a bad breakup.
Containing multiple compounds that act as stimulants, such as phenylethylamine, which tricks the brain into releasing the ‘pleasure-inducing’ chemicals dopamine and serotonin, eating chocolate can be described as a pleasurable experience. Having plenty of experience at eating chocolate, here is a list of my top five favorite candy bars.
French Vanilla and Caramel Milky Way
As soon as Mars Chocolate released this small taste of heaven in a wrapper, it quickly became a top favorite. This bar combines French vanilla-flavored nougat and caramel in a sweet milk chocolate shell for a rich and creamy treat that is good any time. The only down side is the limited edition status.
Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups
If Butterfinger and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups had a baby, this would be the end result. An upgrade from the average peanut butter cup, the crunch associated with a Butterfinger takes this cup to a whole new level.
Cookies ‘n’ Crème Hershey’s
A white chocolate bar with cookies in every bite, Cookies ‘n’ Crème Hershey’s practically melts in your mouth like soft butter, dissolving into sweet bliss.
Zero
The Zero bar, a mix of caramel, peanut and almond nougat wrapped in a white fudge shell, is a unique combination compared to other candy bars on the market. First introduced in 1920 by the Hollywood Candy Company, the Hershey Company did not start manufacturing the Zero bar until 1996.
Strawberry Cheesecake Kit Kat
This delectable bar is only available as an import from Japan, where the Kit Kat phenomenon has inspired a slew of flavors, from kiwifruit to green tea and milk. While some flavors may seem more like a challenge to attempt, strawberry cheesecake is a small mouth-watering delicacy that can satisfy even the strongest sweet tooth.
