Shelia Dossey, business student, talks about her experiences and dreams.

What are you doing here at Crowder?

I am pursuing a business management degree. I’m in my fourth semester, but I will not graduate until May 2020 because I got off track. I first was pursuing a business administration four-year degree, and decided I did not want to transfer out. So I decided on a business management two-year.

What has been the hardest part of getting your degree?

Learning how to study again. Navigating the online aspect of my classes.

What brought you to Crowder?

My husband and I just sold a farm, and we were taking a break from working, and I decided this would be a good time for me to pursue my degree. It’s God’s perfect timing for me.

What’s something for which you have a passion?

Traveling. I love to travel. And sports, I love sports. Specifically the Razorbacks – Go hogs!

What’s number one on your bucket list?

My goodness. Well, to finish my degree, that’s – yeah, that’s number one on my bucket list, because I’m not gonna quit until I get it.

What would be your perfect day?

If I could have a perfect day… well, I like to shop, so I guess if I could go shopping with an unlimited amount of cash, and just buy anything I wanted. That would pretty much be a perfect day.

If you could have any pet, what would you choose?

A mini cow. I’m gonna have one someday. Yeah, one of those little fuzzy ones. I do, I want one real bad. And I’m gonna have some little tiny goats that wear pajamas. It’s a dream.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten for breakfast?

Well, a lot of people eat it, so pizza isn’t really strange, but I do like to have pizza for breakfast. The strangest thing I’ve ever eaten for… well, you people would probably freak out because I’m from the South, and we eat chocolate gravy. So, put chocolate gravy with biscuits. A lot of people don’t even know what it is. It’s basically like warm, chocolate pudding, but a little… different, I guess. And you just put that on the biscuits. It’s delicious.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

Wow, I’m drawing a complete blank. Okay. I’m not afraid of heights, but Brentley (my husband) and I visited Colorado this past summer, and we drove the Million Dollar Highway. It does not have guardrails on the outside of the mountain where we were driving, so, basically, the white stripe is on the absolute edge of the road and it drops off miles. It’s just very… that’s scary. That scared me.

How did you meet your husband?

At church. That was quick.

What is something that never fails to make you smile?

My daughter.

What is your favorite thing about your family?

That we’re close. We tell each other we love you every time we talk. It doesn’t matter if we’re face-to-face or on the phone or in a text, we always end our conversation with “I love you”.

What’s your favorite movie?

Man of the House.

What do you like to do for fun?

I like to read, and I like to go hiking. And I just enjoy shopping. I like to go shopping.

What’s your ultimate vacation destination?

We’ve been so many places. Ultimate? My happy place is northern California. You can see the redwoods, the ocean, King’s Canyon, the sequoias; there’s just so much to do in northern California.

Where all have you traveled?

We’ve been from the east coast to the west coast. We’ve been to Oregon – I mean, it’d be easier to tell you the states we haven’t visited! We’ve been into Montana, but we have not gone to Jackson Hole, so we’d kinda like to go there. But we’ve, you know, eaten the “lobstah” in Maine. They got a kick out of our accents, we got a kick out of theirs… We’ve vacationed in Florida all the time, we’ve been to Louisiana, and Mississippi. North and South Carolina; we’ve been to the beaches there, we’ve been to Virginia, been to New York, seen Niagara Falls. We’ve been to Colorado numerous times. Pike’s Peak. I’ve been to Pike’s Peak five times. I get deathly ill every single time, and I told my husband I’m not ever going back. Ever. That was my last trip. That’s enough; it’s a treacherous ascent.

What’s your favorite food?

Pizza. And spaghetti. I could eat pizza and spaghetti every day. I don’t think I’d ever get sick of it. They should make spaghetti pizza. That’s a thought.

If you were a donut, what kind of donut would you be?

I would be the craziest donut there is, so… I would be a chocolate glazed donut with sprinkles. That’s a strange question.

What has been your favorite part of coming to Crowder?

The friendships I’ve made. There’s so many nice people who work here and teach here, and they all genuinely care.

If you could plan the best party, what would it be?

Okay, it would be a summer party, because my birthday’s in summer, so it would be all about me. And, we would do all the fun things I like to do. There would be a slip ‘n slide. And, I can’t think of what those things – a hamster ball? That you get in and try to kill each other with. A bounce house, for adults. And lots of food. Maybe an obstacle course. Yeah, that sounds like fun.
