Their upcoming scrimmages will both be played on the road, one at the Mid America Showcase in Lawrence, Kans. on Oct. 20, time to be announced. The last scrimmage before the regular season tips off will be held at John Brown University on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. The next stop for the team will be the season opener on the road versus National Park College on Nov. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
“Our ultimate goal is to win a region tournament and put a banner on the wall, but right now we’re focusing on day-to-day things and doing the little things right,” said coach Tina Wilson about the 2018-19 season, “We always have the expectation for our kids that we want them to come in and work hard, and work on the controllable things that they can do.”
Last year, the basketball team had a very talented group of sophomores that led to a successful season. The 2017-18 team finished with a winning record of 22 wins and 10 losses. All 5 sophomores last season went on to continue to play at four-year schools.
“Leadership is a big thing. The Sophomores were great leaders last year so this year’s sophomore class is having to step up and take that leadership role.” Wilson went on to say.
This year, there are six returners that were apart of last year’s season that have to fill the role of the sophomores last year.
“I think we will have a great season this year. If we keep working together and working hard, we will be successful,” said sophomore returner Ellie Williams, “the memories I will be making with my teammates on and off the court is what I am looking forward to the most.”
The basketball team’s first home game will be on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. versus Missouri Southern State University.
