The automotive department has made many upgrades and improvements. According to Melissa Oates the automotive department received an enhancement grant from DESE. This grant was used to make improvements to the facility or program.

When receiving the grant, you will be notified on Jul. 1 of what has been approved. Between this year and last year’s grant, the automotive department received new epoxy coated floors, new toolboxes, and new snap-on toolsets.

“The floor and paint really brighten up the shop and makes it easier for clean-up,” said Kirk Rolfsema Automotive Program Director

The modernization of the shop and new tools helps set crowder students up for the workforce and new technology they may use in the future jobs. Staying up to date in the industry.

The automotive program also received a new wheel alignment system. Many different computer screens that showed how, where, and what to do on a vehicle.

“The improvements and new technology help us stay up to date and help us know how to use upcoming technology in our future jobs,” said Drew Shoemaker

“A lot of students have a dream of owning their own shop, it helps for them to see how the shop is set up,” said Oates. The new improvements to the shop made it possible for the students to see the possibilities.

The automotive program, along with some of Crowder’s other programs is working with surrounding technical schools to make sure that their curriculum matches. Crowder’s ultimate goal is sending students from high school to Crowder to the workforce. Oates said as well as making a website for transfer information and tools for their upcoming profession.
