Welcome to morning inspirations. I’m your host, Jesse Walls.
Today we’ll be talking about making excuses. Our first quote comes from James Cash Penney, founder of J.C. Penney:
“I do not believe in excuses. I believe in hard work as the prime solvent of life’s problems.”
Many times in life we make excuses for ourselves, justifying why we couldn’t get something accomplished rather than asking ourselves what really prevented us from doing this or doing that. In this sense we become our own worst enemy, finding reasons to not live up to our full potential or to not do a job to the best of our ability.
By making excuses, what we are really doing is forfeiting our chances to change or better ourselves. An excuse allows us to become complacent and stagnant, and prevents us from excelling or progressing. Someone who is truly motivated can find ways around the greatest difficulties, while people who don’t want to put in the effort make excuses at the slightest inconvenience. In this way, when we make an excuse and become stagnant, we are not sitting still, but in fact falling behind as others who are motivated move ahead.
Life takes hard work and dedication and if we want to find happiness and success, we have to learn to stop making excuses and start learning to take chances. Our worth is determined by how much work we are willing to put into our own lives.
As in the words of Benjamin Franklin, “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.”
